My dear Krishna,
The evening I heard you sing in the home of Kaz and Linda was unforgettable. The experience has remained strong throughout the passing years and while our classical traditions are cultures and lifetimes apart, I feel a deep connection to Indian devotional music as you embody it. Someday I would like to return to Varanassi and experience this tradition in the place of its origin. I have recently taken early retirement from the University of Toronto to find a more authentic and resonant place for my own voice as a conductor and teacher. I continue to practice with roshi joan halifax and will embark soon on a two year chaplaincy program at Upaya. I don’t know how all this will manifest, but I would love someday to visit you in Varanassi. With my very best wishes and gratitude for your song. Doreen Rao
